I like to say that I accidentally stumbled into photography. In 2010, armed with college degrees in business management and outdoor recreation, I was working a typical 9-to-5 job when my best friend asked me to take her engagement photos. I didn’t even own a camera at the time—I had to borrow my mom’s—but I had so much fun taking those photos that I knew I needed to find more clients. 

I continued to hone my craft and officially went full-time with my photography business in 2015. Since then, I’ve cherished every opportunity I’ve had to connect with couples and families, hear their stories, and photograph them year after year as they grow. As a one-time bride and mom to two kids, I get what it feels like to be on the other side of the lens—the giddiness and awkwardness you may feel in front of the camera at your engagement session, the passion you pour into every single detail of your wedding, the exhaustion and over-the-moon happiness you radiate at your newborn session, the overwhelm that comes along with a toddler who won’t sit still during your family session. I love all of it. Give me all of the nerves and emotions and chaos so I can transform those fleeting, authentic moments into lifelong memories. 

 After 18 years in Colorado, my family and I have moved back to Iowa, but I’ve recently added some additional photographers to the JLP team to continue serving our clients in Colorado, Iowa, and beyond!

After meeting and working together at a photography studio in Chicago, we always joked about moving to Colorado and starting our own company. That dream became a reality when Katie moved to Colorado in 2020, followed by Elizabeth in 2023. Together, we love capturing special moments and having fun with our clients so that each session is truly personalized and unique. 

• Favorite type of session to photograph: Katie loves to photograph couples and engagements, while Elizabeth loves maternity and newborns, but we both have a soft spot for weddings. 

• Dream shooting location: Anywhere in the mountains!

• Fun fact about us: We both love to craft! Elizabeth crochets, and Katie cross stitches and needle felts.

I’ve been passionate about photography for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until 2023, after the birth of my miracle baby boy, that I finally took the leap to pursue it as a career. I love capturing the raw, unfiltered, “real life” moments that are so fleeting and precious. It’s special for me to capture them in a still frame for you to keep as a memory forever. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me reading, sipping coffee, or playing with my busy toddler.  

• Favorite type of session to photograph: Families! I love being able to capture all the candid, heartfelt family giggles and love. 

• Dream shooting location: Whether it’s the mountains or the beach, anywhere with a killer backdrop will have me googly-eyed. 

Fun fact about me: My favorite animal is a hippo, and yes, I was chased by one on a sunset river safari in Africa!
